We Can Work It Out
A few nights ago, I had a prophetic dream and woke up with the lyrics to the Beatles song, “We Can Work it Out,” playing in my mind.
“Try to see it my way,
Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?
While you see it your way,
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.”
I knew the Lord was saying I needed to see something His way... but what? After praying about it, He began to reveal what the dream meant. When we come into a real, intimate relationship with Jesus, it is exciting and motivating. Immediately, we want everyone else to experience the same thing in their own lives. Which is a good thing. We are called to go out into the world and make disciples. But, if we’re not careful, we can easily fall into a trap of self-righteousness and pride, thinking that we “get it” while those who are stuck in religion or the flesh... don’t.
It’s not to say that we should placate their behavior or leave them in sin. Of course, revival begins with repentance. So, their spirits literally can’t be revived, if they don’t repent first of their choices and sins. But, just like we wouldn’t sit back and view an unbeliever in judgment (at least, I sure hope not!), judging and criticizing a fellow BELIEVER who is stuck in the world, their flesh or religion, in judgment and criticism is equally as ineffective and more importantly, not loving.
When we look at others through a lens of criticism and judgement, we are not being Christlike. We don’t need to sit back and marvel at how lost they’ve become and then go run off to the safety of our “real” relationship with Jesus. We need to get in there in the trenches with them and love them! Lead by example, not judgment. And see them as God sees them.
One day a few months ago, the Lord gave me a powerful vision. In it, I was seeing from His point of view, as people surrounded him, pushing and shoving and yelling hateful things at Him. He asked if I wanted to hear what they were really saying... what HE heard and when I said yes, their shouts changed to “Help me! I’m hurting! I’m broken! I’m dying!” I immediately broke down in tears. He went on to tell me how this is why He was able to endure the torture of Calvary because He saw through their hatred and their sin, to the pain and suffering beneath. And this was what He wanted me to remember too... when I endured hateful words from people that they are coming from a place of fear, hurt or confusion. Or at the very least, ignorance.
Since the vision and the dream, the Holy Spirit also spoke to me through a very graphic “natural” experience that happened right in front of me. The spiritual battle is very real and the enemy and his demonic army ARE after believers that have laxed, backslid or strayed in their faith. They are coming after them with fleshy, worldly desires, greed, self-centeredness, self-righteousness and religion. But, just like He never gives up on the 1 to hang out with the 99, He doesn’t want us to only hang out with other people that “get it.” We need to help the lost and strayed find their way! Not with condemnation or judgement, but patience, grace, love and mercy. 💜
“And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.”
-Jude 1:22-23 NLT
