Remember... It's the Way God Works!

Back in January, the Holy Spirit spoke the phrase “Mind the Gap” to me and had me release a word around it. In it, He spoke about how we are in the middle of a “gap” - which is "an undesirable break between situations.” It is the space of time between when God speaks something and when we SEE it manifest in the natural.

He gave this warning right at the end of January because He knew a “gap” was coming and He wanted to warn us ahead of time not to “fall” in the middle of it. Because if we go by our flesh… our “self”…. our natural senses… we will fall. Our thoughts and especially our emotions can (and will) betray us. It’s why the Lord tells us to walk by faith and not by sight.

Because if we go by what we see (or feel or think), we can be deceived. It’s why it is SO important to only go by what the Lord says. We have to be able to stand on His word and nothing else.

When He gave me the “mind the gap” word back in January, it was in regard to what’s happening in our country. He wanted His people to stay in hope, peace and expectancy and not get caught up in what they see or feel.

And even though it does still very much apply to that situation, it also applies to many people’s personal situations as well. The ones where they’ve been waiting on a personal promise from God… a healing, a restoration, a vindication, a relationship, your purpose… those things that the Lord has given you a word about personally and you’ve been holding onto it tightly in faith, even though you haven’t seen the manifestation of it yet in the natural.

So, what I feel the Holy Spirit strongly wanted to encourage God’s people with right now is to remember… this is how God works!

It can be painful, confusing, frustrating and even depressing in the “wait.” It can feel like it’s taking forever for God to do something. It can feel like maybe He’s forgotten what He said. Or maybe you heard Him wrong. Or maybe He changed His mind.

But, He didn’t. You didn’t. And again, He didn’t.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” -Numbers 23:19

It’s how God works!

Over and over in the Bible, we see God giving a word and then a period of time passing before He makes it happen. In fact, most of the time, it’s a great period of time!

Joseph had to wait years for the promise God gave him in a dream to come to pass. Abraham had to wait for God to fulfill His promise of a son (even though he tried to make it happen himself during the wait). David had to wait years between his anointing and when he became king.

But, there’s a reason God does things this way. He’s not a masochist and He’s not just messing with people for fun. God works this way because it allows Him to show off His glory!

He has to allow a period of time to pass in order for it to appear “impossible” SO THAT He can get the glory when He does move! If He moved right away, it would be much easier for us to write it off as coincidence or our own efforts. But, when we give God space to work, He is able to show off and be God!

But, that’s not all.

God works this way on purpose because He needs to expose things. It’s the same thing He did in the big picture by giving the law first before He sent Jesus. He could’ve just sent Jesus from the very beginning and saved everyone a lot of time. But, He did it that way because He wanted to “show” us our sinful nature with the law, SO we would understand what a big deal it was to have a Savior and how badly we need one!

And He does the same thing when He appears to be “waiting” and “letting the enemy win”… That’s not what He’s doing at all. He’s exposing the enemy. He’s letting them show themselves. He’s letting all the ugly truth come out. He’s setting them up.

This is exactly what He’s doing in our national situation. If He had moved right away months ago, back when people wanted (or expected) Him to, not everyone would’ve known what a big deal it was. Some people who were just hanging out “on the fence” and feeling pretty lukewarm about things may not have even been affected. But, God is letting the enemy be exposed right now. SO THAT everyone will know what a big deal it is when He does move! How He does still rescue His people! And how it’s based on His goodness, not how much we “deserve” it.

Because again, if we stop to think about… this IS how God works! He let Pharaoh think he was winning and the Israelites were trapped until the last minute, when He brought the water crashing down on them. He let Goliath think he was winning right up until the minute David killed him with a stone.

He let Satan think he won right up until the moment Jesus breathed and rose again.

God sets up His enemies. And positions His people for victory. Haman thought he won over Mordecai until he was the one who ended up impaled on the pole. Potiphar’s wife thought she had won over Joseph until God vindicated him and made him second in command in Egypt.

God is a God of justice.

God does not have a “blasé” attitude about vindicating His people and conquering His enemies. He is not indifferent about it.

Do not mistake the passing of time as God not moving.

The Lord wants us to remember how He works so we can find peace in it and be expectant! He wants us to remember how He works so we do expect Him to move!

In our nation, in our personal situations and in the bigger spiritual picture. He wants us to wake up and remember who He is! Remember how He works and why He does it.

It may not be very fun for us… the waiting, the holding on to faith when it feels like it’s been forever. But, the Lord does it for a reason.

Because when He does move, there will be NO mistaking it.

Everyone will see that it is His hand at work.

He will conquer His enemies. He will vindicate His people. And He will expose people’s hearts in the process.

So, don’t fall in the gap. Don’t get caught in your flesh and end up on the wrong side of things. And don’t forget how God works.

He is still in control. And He is still on the move… right now.

Be peaceful. Be humble. Be excited. And, be expectant! The Lord will move like He always does!
